Fibergrate Decking Is Made to Survive Hurricanes

After 2 Direct Hits, Our Decking Stands Strong

Fibergrate provided material to the Fort Pierce area in 2002 to meet the Army Corps Guidelines to protect sea-grasses that were present. In 2004 Fort Pierce had two direct hurricanes hit the area. Most all wooden docks and marinas were destroyed while the Fibergrate Decking was still standing. This is when we realized that our decking was storm-surge friendly.

Our decking has been through many hurricanes over the years.

Hurricane Mathew & Irma

Our home is located on the St. Johns River, in Jacksonville, FL. On October 8th, 2016, Hurricane Mathew came blowing into town, unfortunately, my dock sustained significant damage. The engineering report conducted on my dock was irrefutable; the storm surge destroyed my dock. Fortunately, I did not sustain any significant damage to the pilings.

After researching my options for various dock building materials, I decided to utilize Fibergrate MicroMesh decking instead of wood decking. The product is manufactured in 4′ x 12′ sheets and was easy to work with, the large sheets made the installation process go quickly.

Unfortunately, on September 10th, 2017 Hurricane Irma decided to pay Jacksonville, FL a visit… I couldn’t believe it! Due to the fact that I used Fibergrate MicroMesh dock decking, I was hoping for the best, but expecting the worst!

Hurricane Irma was a strong category 1 hurricane with category 3 storm surge that was 6 to 7 feet above high tide. I was confident that my dock was once again damaged. But after the water receded I could not believe my eyes, my dock was one of the few docks still standing!!!

Most docks near me sustained major structural damage. I lost 1 light, but had no structural damage. I am absolutely 100% confident that the MicroMesh dock decking is the only reason my dock is still standing. Thank you Fibergrate!!!

Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma, which was only a category 1 when it hit the Orlando area, completely destroyed our wooden dock.  Afterward, we replaced it with a Fibergrate deck and couldn’t be happier.

Hurricane Dorian

Dorian has left the Abacos, Bahamas in a devasted state. The entire island was decimated by this powerful storm. One customer who has been through 3 hurricanes with our decking shares that he was “completely shocked” that his dock survived while others were destroyed like most of the structures on the island.

Fibergrate decking works with storm surges, not against them.

Please note that although our decking can be storm-surge friendly, we make no guarantees that it will survive all storms. In addition, the warranty is not related to being storm-surge friendly.
